I have a 48 3100 with the gas tank under the bed. I started putting the wood slats down over the tank in order to access nuts. Then I started from the other side. Now the middle board will not fit close to the cab and am trying to figure out what to do.

I'm not clear on what your problem is. I also have a '48 and had trouble with the width of the boards. I wound up shaving a half inch off one of them. It sounds like you're having a problem with the length of a board, though. Is that the case?

I suggest putting all the boards and strips in without tightening the nuts. That way you can move everything around as needed to make it all fit. To do that, however, you'll probably have to lower the tank.

I saw a uTube video of one guy who put his entire bed togather off the truck, then positioned it on and bolted it down.

It is the width.

yes, a "dry fit" is always a good place to start ... problem with shaving the sides of the boards is the spacing of the grooves for the skid strips needs to be just so or the skids won't lay right, and if yours is too tight just at one end the grooves won't be parallel, maybe you need to spread the bottom of the bed sides a bit at the front?
