Seems to be working so far; no big temp spike. It stayed at 175-185 like it should. I might try another one now without a hole (or with a small hole), if I do I'll report my results.
As a side note, I warmed up my other truck with an old brass 180 with no hole, which of course worked perfectly, as usual.

I think a 1/16" hole should be all that's needed to bleed any air out. That's about all the ones that come with holes have. The brass one in my other truck, and the one that came out of this one had no bleed holes or notches in the valve and didn't spike. I'd like to run as small a hole as I can to avoid long warm up times, especially in winter.
