I have a truck that has the MS code, I think this code stands for a Conventional Heavy Duty Truck - 160'' WB, 1 1/2 ton flatbed, stake/stock rack , single axle/dual wheels.
could somebody tell me please what should maximum weight loading be on the body tag for this truck, thanks

I need schooling here too. Sounds like you have an early 41-42 with the MS code. My '42 is the MR code "134 1/2" wheelbase. From what Gm heritage site has, there are many factors as to what your max weight would be. Optional equip, tire and so forth. From what i figure it's within the 10-14,000 lb range.

I'm unsure if my truck is 1941 or 42, it is shown as first regestered here in 41 but I have received information that it could have been produced in 42, I can't seem to get any positive information either way

is that first registration an original document? if it was first registered in 41, it can't be a 42 .... I don't think there were any trucks actually produced in 42, they were just using up the parts left from 41 production with changes in designations to denote the later year ... 41-46 ratings should be the same

If it has the original block/head, post the casting codes (and engine serial number). The date casting codes might be interesting.

the engine number now is BDR 15592, I'm not 100% sure if the motor has ever been changed but I see on the original ownership papers that came with the truck it has another number
BFR 246846, this number has been crossed out, not sure if this was a mistake originally or if this may have been the original motor?

My parts book lists YS as 1941 and MS as 1942.

Is this a right hand drive truck?

yes RHD, so who can tell me what the max load rating would have been listed as? it has 700 x 20 tyres front & back, but it looks as if originaly it may have had smaller tyres on the front, either 650 front & 700 back or 700 front % 750 back? not sure on this but it seems as if this may efffect the max weight loading, if I was to change the tyre size now I would probably leave the 700's on the back and change the front to 650's the 700's hit the deck going over bumps now when it has a full/heavy load on it so going to 750's may not be a good idea, its always been fine for me having 700's front & back

thanks Bill but what are the ratings for a 41-46 conventional Heavy Duty Truck - 160'' WB, 1 1/2 ton single axle / dual wheel with 700 x 20 tyres?

Unless you change components, manufacturers max ratings for the vehicle doesn't change. What does change are the tire ratings. Be aware of your max tire ratings, both for singles load and duals load at the proper pressure.

Our commercial tire supplier just found out that a load rate H tire from Continental was different from a Goodyear. One had an axle rating of 18,000 and the other 20,000 on an axle rated for 20,000 for the pair. In the case of the 18,000 tires, the vehicle front end rating of 20,000 was reduced to the weakest link of 18,000 because of the tires. Both manufacturer sticking with the govt required "H range" but one tire having less capacity. Afterall, it is a range!
