Need information where to find this. Mine was ate up. I saw a write up for this but it is blank. Also have no idea how tight this bushing is in relation to the shaft. Or maybe better, what is it's purpose? A sacrificial rub?

I found an illustration for my truck that shows all the parts in the driveline and the bushing is not shown.

Can you point to the illustration? There are two bushings in the front, one for the driveshaft and one for the u-joint assembly.

truckernix, this is the illustration I referenced. I also used Denny Graham's pictures as a guide. My bushing was paper thin and gone on one side. It looks to have been seated to the top of the tube as in the picture. I was able to find a bushing on Ebay that is a supposed fit.

Now, after having things apart, the front u-joint has some wear where it was rubbing the bushing. Also, are those joints supposed to have a lot of play on the trunion? I think I found a replacement but am reluctant to shell out $150 at this point. I'm already digging farther than I wanted to. My intentions were to replace seals to curb the worst leaks. That and I really don't plan on using the truck for more than 500 miles a year.

Maybe Denny will chime in here now that we got this thread active again. There are other folks on here that have been through this.

I wonder if this member may have run across a supply of parts. Discussion about a 1940 Universal

Denny was a good source of information. I have a bushing on the way and found a better illustration of my setup. You can clearly see the bushing location in this one.

I'm debating if I should swap the front universal joint out with a NOS unit, if I can find one. I know it's pricey! I know the rear tailshaft on the front/transmission u-joint is worn irregularly where it rides in the bushing. Also when you turn the u-joint, the yokes slide up and down on the intermediate trunion(maybe a bushing in the yokes where the trunion rides?). Not sure if this is normal but I think with a tight fit on the new bushing, movement would not happen. Thoughts on that?

Just a heads up here. In the summer I put an "NOS" U joint in my 38 Master. I had everything apart a few months later because I was overhauling the motor. The U joint had considerable wear after less than 1000 miles. Looking at the joint closer I discovered that it was a knockoff part. Some of the metal was only half as thick as the real GM part. In addition there was no flat side on the spindles which the GM part has for lubrication. I am lucky that I took things apart for another reason and made the discovery.
