Have a problem, dead truck! replaced alternator, external voltage regulator and battery. Still no juice to even crank. Is the starter next?

Welcome to the site...half of your state is here!
Your profile indicates a '65 truck, so I am guessing a key switch and standard transmission. If you have replaced all those items and no soap on the start, it's time to troubleshoot with a meter..put the checkbook away.
With a KNOW GOOD BATTERY, charged, with clean terminals and properly attached to the starter, you need to have someone attempt to start it while you check the small post on the solenoid with a light or meter. You need to know that Mr. Starter is being TOLD to start by the key switch.
Remember that "won't start" is a different animal than "won't charge". Don't replace anything more until you know what isn't functioning properly.
If it's a automatic, don't forget the neutral starter safety switch. All the items on the rig can be tested in place and proved to be good or NFG, then replaced.

#94199 01/07/2006 10:11 PM | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 | My buddies old ford had a similar problem. good battery, starter, alternator. but what it ended up being was the coil, all i did was loosen the screws on the coil and scuffed all the contact pints with sandpaper. when i reassembled it everything worked perfect. this was after he replaced a perfectly good battery and starter against my advice. anyway i would say to try the coil and see what happens, nothing to lose.
