I have a modest leak where the torque tube connects to my old crash box. It looks like it would be a seal or gasket. How difficult is this to repair? Anyone have advice or part numbers? I haven't found much info. by searches and vendor catalogs.

Is your leak here?

...here...

Or there

...there...

Or both (like mine)

Dads50, it is "there" for sure but my tube extends further down to a carrier bearing for the open driveline. I found in a parts book a seal (OEM #348259)referred to as the "universal joint ball collar seal".

I found an illustration of your "here" photo which describes a cork or felt packing washer depending on year. Mine is unique since it is for a 3/4 ton, the part on mine is at the center carrier where the torque tube converts to a drive or open propeller shaft. There is a bearing in the center carrier with an oil seal. Not sure, but for me I think it calls for a 2-19/32"ID seal with OEM #3653618 (Update, I found an interchange part at RockAuto, SKF Part # 25970.)

I'd like to know what the modern parts numbers are, where to get them, and what to expect when repairing them.

although I'm not sure if it the same kit for your big bolt.

Maybe some can advise?

Denny has some good info on his web site for the carrier

Thanks! I forgot how thorough Denny is with the pictures. He has the 3/4 ton too! By the way, on your pictures I noticed a grease zerk on the cast member that the bell housing attaches to. I thought the all the innards there used the tranny gear oil?
