I have a 1956 car 235 in my 1593 3100. The intake manifold casting # is 3836922 and head casting # is 3836848. I want to switch the intake to one with the mounting tab for the horn. I see one on e bay with casting # 3835590, seller not sure if for a 235 or 216. Do you think they are interchangeable? And are the gaskets for the intake/exhaust seperate or one piece. I know I'm going in way too deep for just a horn bracket but I can't help myself!!! Thanks, Paul

Have the seller measure the intake port for you

If its 1 1/2 you should be good

If its 1 3/8 it's most likely 216 or early 235
You could still use it but you will need the exhaust with it and the carb spacing will be smaller, so you will need the carb for that manifold.

Also check how the exhaust flange runs, some will run straight down, make sure it matches what you currently have.

Others will be along to correct any errors I made

The gasket at the heat box is not the same

As you can see in the pic you cannot mix (exception early 235)

The gasket to the head should be the same for both.

Seller says port is 1 3/4 ", but thinks it came out of a 1949 -1952 chevy truck. But casting # is 3835590 for sure ,I can see it in the picture. Doesn't that make it a 1950-1955 235 manifold? Thanks

I have a '52 216 and the casting # on the manifold is 3835395. It does have the ears for mounting the horn. See top of page:

My 1954 3104 has a 3835590 intake manifold and it has the mounting tab for a horn. The 235 truck engine block was cast February 26, 1954. It has a 3836848 head that was cast December 22, 1959. I have not had the manifold off of the engine since I have owned it, so I don't have any measurements or other info.

I found that it was painted yellow when I stripped off the top layer of paint so it may have come from a 261 engine. According to Robert Hensel's research, 1955-1957 261 cu in engines were painted yellow. Group #3.265, part #3694163 in the 1929-1957 MPC is an intake manifold with casting #3835590 "50-57 All 6 cyl. (exc 216, D.D., COE); 57 D.D (2 Ton)".
