First thing I would check for would be a vacuum leak

What Bolter2 said, plus hook up a vacuum gauge and set (adjust) the air fuel mixture to the highest vacuum reading. Or maybe you're just due for a complete tune up.

I wanted to thank you guys for the suggestions on my 216 motor, i found the problem with my 216, after checking everything from points to plugs to vacuum leaks and the problem was??...BAD GAS!!!! It started right after I got gas at a local BP station, I since drained the tank of 10 gallons of gas, changed the filter and refilled my tank and no more problems..... now I have 10 gallons of weed whacker gas, and now Im gonna have to work on the lawn....dammit
