Were any 1953 half-ton pickups assembled @ the factory with 235 engines or did all have the 216 splash oiler?

This question was mainly directed to Canadians, as I have come across two nicely restored Model 1300 pickups & both owners insist their trucks came from the Oshawa assembly plant with 235 c.i. engines

Welcome Sandra, a lot of us Canadians own US built trucks, such as mine. Mine came with a 235 as far as I can tell. Canadian GMC half tons all came with Chevrolet engines, not sure if they were 216s or 235s.

I have seen lots of 1300's and all 1953 models have had a 60 lb oil pressure gauge (vs 30 lb prior) indicating they left the factory with a 235.

Hy Miss Church, welcome, yes 1953 Canadian Chevy and GMC pickups came from the factory with full pressure lubricated 235 Chevrolet engines, hope that helps.

Many books of the past 2 or 3 decades such as those of the late Tom Brownell state that pickups ran the 216 through model year 1953

Is it possible (as they weren't a good highway engine) that most got replaced with 235s over the years?

The books are written about US assembled trucks. They are correct.

A whole bunch of 216s have been replaced by 235s in the past 70 some years.

I know nothing about Canadian trucks but if 3B says yours came with a 235, I believe it. He does know them.

One thing that 1953 Panel didn't mention about his truck was that it had a low pressure 235.

Don't have a lot of Canadian literature but some interesting scans.
Chevrolet 1950 the engine is referred to as a Thriftmaster but nowhere in the brochure does it give horsepower or displacement?

Then in 1953 my Canadian owners manual for Chevrolet specifically mentions 235.5 displacement, 108 horsepower.

Which coincides with the new for 53' Canadian brochure this is GMC but refers to the "108" engine which is now called a Loadmaster.
