The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Mystery holes between cab corner window and back window

When I took possession of this truck, the following 2 holes were present on the interior of the passenger side:

The holes are 7" apart.

I am curious if anyone may have some idea as to what would have been fastened in this location. My 1/2 ton '48 Chevy served as County Road department service vehicle in Mineral County, Nevada until the mid 1960's.

Thanks for any insight on these mystery holes.

mysteries abound on 60 year old trucks, particularly ones used 'commercially', I doubt anyone here worked for that Nevada county, make up an entertaining story and stick to it

I believe that these old trucks do talk to us, but just do not finish their stories! If this truck could, I would like to be able to try and replicate what was originally fastened to those 2 holes.

My Suburban side windows were speckled with round chips. I bought it from a farmer who had been using the Suburban for moving-target practice - he would shoot at it with a shot-gun, from a distance.

I'm serious about the hippie curtains! Eons ago, when I bought my first Stovebolt, it came with a hairy dash, IN GREEN!! It looked like a baby troll had exploded. My current project came with a lot of curtain rod hooks. Seems they hung curtains from the operator area on back. Heck, it could've been one of those deals where you help the guy get the couch in the back and end up being told to put the lotion on your skin!

Every Burb I've owned had Hippy Curtains/hooks. Don't come knockin...

Now that you mention it, I was a hippy! Forgot that.

At this time I am leaning toward Dad's suggestion of "hooks for a pair of hard hats" unless someone comes up with something better.

Hats would have obscured the visibility out the windows.

When I was a teenager I had a 72 chevy truck.....I took a pair of 6x9 speakers and long sheet metal screws and mounted the speaker right there. No enclosure just two long screws through the speaker mounting holes on the sides screwed into the cab....looks very familiar....

attachment points for external speaker for dispatch radio?

That is a pretty cool idea. It could be interesting to try and recreate that whole set-up...if I knew what I was looking for! I would take whatever help that I could get to look into that idea further. Thanks.

Just what I remember from when my dad drove his fuel truck.

I thought you guys were talking about the two 3/8" holes but
they are in the top of the door jams and are 10" apart.
