My son inlaw just sent me a chrome valve cover that has a vented oilcap on it only. Will this cause a problem with air circulating to slow. The old cover has four slots for vents and a vented oil fill cap.I would like to use the new cover ,should i drill some holes in it to help give it more air or just leave it be. Feed back please. THANKS

It should work just fine. Your old cover likely has a newer cap on it instead of the twist on style that looks similar to a radiator cap and has no vents. Don't know offhand just what the 58's used but am pointing out the different types that have been used over the years so they get mixed up. I think the solid non vented ones were used on the draft tube engines with the slotted covers but I may be wrong.

1954 was the last year to use a vented valve cover originally, after that a vented cap was used. See pic #24 page #4 in this link

There was no vented oil filler cap in 1954. As Dave posted, the valve cover was vented in 1954 (what about 1955-1st, Dave?).
