Hi, I've been lurking for a while and I just bought a '66 C10 in fairly decent condition with a 283 powerglide. I've got plans down on paper on what my vision for the truck is and what needs to be done and this site looks like a good resource. Hopefully I have some contributions of my own. Thanks for having me.

Sidekick, you'll find many 66 owners around here and there is even a forum specially for you guys...as well as many others.
You are also correct about the resources. For many, many years I found this site to contain LOTS of knowledge and folks who are willing to share it! Post questions in the most appropriate forum and watch what happens.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. Visit often and don't forget the Stovebolt Reunion in Kansas City Mo. first weekend in Sept. See ya there.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Welcome sidekick. Sounds like you got a good one. You can't go wrong with a 66 and you can't go wrong with a 283. So, does your truck need much to get it roadworthy?

It needs nothing to be roadworthy. It passed inspection with no problems. The motor seems to run pretty well but I suspect it will be a bit of an oil burner. The trans shifts fine and clunks into gear just like a normal Powerglide. The cab is in good shape and the interior is great except for the seat (which is shot). All gauges work, windows and doors work great, good glass, steering and brakes are fine too. The bed however is another matter and that's where I'll probably throw most of my money. It just seems to be a good ol' truck that managed to escape being owned by hooligans. Oh and 93,000 original miles.

I'd love to post pictures but out here where the hoot owls and chickens engage in unlawful carnal relations my only internet options are expensive crappy satellite and dial up. And I'm cheap so dial up it is which makes posting pictures an exercise in futility.

I'm a pretty fair mechanic and I learned to use a paint gun in the Air Force which is a skill that I've retained and put to good use over the years. I'm really looking forward to this project. I have a notebook divided into sections with to-do lists and ideas and I think that I'm really going to be pleased with my end result. Hopefully I can contribute something useful once in a while.
