The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 4 speed Transmission Question

I changed the gear oil in the my 4 speed transmission. The book says 2 1/2 pints. I have put in 2 quarts and it still isnt full. I changed it on a flat drive way no jack stands. IS that a miss print

Also, I have questions concerning the gearing.

1st is slow low, I don't even use it.
2nd seems to be very short. In that I soon shift out to 3rd. Is that right?

3rd and 4th seem to be lacking power. I think this might be a gas problem. But I am not sure.

Any thought or suggestions?

According to both the shop manual and owners manual, the 4 speed capacity is 6 pints.
The ratios on that trans are; 1st gear-7.06:1, 2nd- 3.58:1, 3rd- 1.71:1, 4th- 1:1, Reverse- 6.78:1. Couple that with the 4.56:1 ratio in the differential, it makes the first virtually unusable for anything other than getting a load moving, and second isn't much better.
On the lack of power issue, before you go digging in the feul system, you may consider checking the timing.
