We're trying to figure out if we're going to re-chrome or replace the front bumper on our 1949 3600. Is there something we can look for that will help determine if its original style of manufacturing?

The chrome is pealing and steel rusting underneath

thanks for the advice

Thanks

The paint is kinda of soar subject with me.
Its unfinished

What's on there now is Sherman Williams ultra 7000 base coat with no clear.
Not what I intended but its what I'm going to roll with for a while
Rookie mistake by me.
Going to let it dull out and chalk over

I started a thread in the paint section a while back asking suggestions n how to knock down the shine.

When my kid gets older I think I'll take it apart and paint it mariner blue.

Right now I just enjoy driving it.

Full width with the outer camber of the original front 1950
bumper is 5 9/16", the reproduction from Classic Parts of
America is also 5 9/16". The width on both is 5 1/4" thru the
chord. The thickness is the same on both. The chrome on the
reproduction is triple chrome i.e., copper/nickle/chrome. The
only difference that I can find is the original bumper has all
of the edges rounded over, and the corners at the ends are
blended by rounding. The repro blank is burned out, formed and
goes right to the plating operation, the edges are not sanded
smooth, they are left sharp, and the corners at the ends are a
sharp angle. In other words all they would have had to do to
make the repo's an exact reproduction is to take a few minutes
to "Break all sharp edges" and round the corner a little.

The repo on my truck is 1/4 shorter than the original sitting in the back yard

I don't know where the repo came from, it was purchased in 2007 by someone else.

Guess the stamping on the back would be the best way to tell
