That is if they tied in such things as paint colors and number of rear windows etc with the serial or production number.
A title is just that, it is where the state issuing it takes the original factory statement of origin that proves total ownership, then destroys it and issues their title.

Most states have no title records for vehicles titled/registered before 1972 (or even later in some states).
The original-style titles (1948-55) in the four state from which I have seen old titles did not list equipment: make, year, color, body style (maybe GVW) was about it.
The only document (in those years, at least) that might show the configuration of a delivered truck (for example: 5-window option) might have been the sales-slip/contract.
