Hello, will an axle from a 47-53 first series fit a 46?
droppedaxles.com shows a 41-55 in the same picture and they have the same axle or at least its the same after you drop it.

The Truck Shop over in Orange, CA where I live sells a 3" Drop Axle for a 47-55 truck. So I am wondering If I can buy the Drop Axle and install it on my 46. Below is notes from the Truck Shop catalog about the drop axle.

"Note 1: Must use late model style tie rod ends # 47-08808.
Note 2: Mono leaf springs are not recommended.
Note 3: Both 1947-55 & 1955-59 drop axles use 1955-59 king pins with the bushings on the bottom and any shimming goes on top.
Note 4: Tie rod must now be positioned UNDER the knuckle steering arm, which is opposite of the stock positioning."

You need to check the widths, the 46 truck will be narrower.

'41 to '55 1st series half ton share the same part number for the I-beam.

arent you suppose to send you're axle to sid's and he drops your axle for you? I sent my axle from my 46 1/2 ton to nostalgia sid's and he dropped mine 3" and he set me up with all modern tie rods and steering arms im very happy with what he did for me and my truck sits perfect, you have to call him not just look online, and he'll tell you what you need,...he is the premiere axle guy for you're truck, (look at my pic)

I was trying to avoid shipping cost from California to Oklahoma and buy them new locally, if the ones from the truck shop will work. I am assuming because of the weight of the axle and parts that shipping is around $150 each way.

The "47's are a little wider"? The the 47's axle beam is a little wider?

What Steve (Ghostrider) posted is correct: Group 6.008 1941-1955st series 1/2 ton, part number 3656872 (all have the same part number for the "I" BEAM - Front Axle).

1937-55 1st series are the same width.
There is a difference in pin size starting in 1941.
