Hi: I am in the final stages of restoring my 1942 Chevy 3/4 ton truck and need information on how to wire up the horn button. My truck had a wire and contact hanging form the steering colum shaft and an aftermarket horn button mounted on the side. Is there a part that goes under the steering wheel to make the contact???? Help!
Thanks

yes, it's called a horn contact ring, about $15. there's also a horn contact switch that goes in the little round hold drilled into the steering wheel close to the big bolt hole in the center. that's about $5. then this all attaches to a horn relay, at least on my truck anyway. i've heard you can run the horn without the relay but my wiring diagram calls for on on the 101-22 53 gmc so i use one and it works like it did from the factory.
hopefully your wire is intact that runs through the steering column or your outta luck unless you want to pull the column and rewire it.

Brian - It's not that hard to run a new wire for the horn. You will need to get a new bearing for the steering column.

I have some pictures of the pieces that make up the horn button assembly. If you need them I can email them to you. Sorry I can't post them here (long story). I think you can get all the parts from most of the vendors. The only part thet might take some looking is the three prong retaining piece that goes under the steering wheel.

Let me know if you need those pictures and I'll get them off to you.
