Hi i'm new to this forum. I was checking around for place I could ask for help on my truck.

I own a 1979 Chevrolet C-10 Big10 Silverado...the truck is in good shape, especially for being an old farm truck. Here's my dilema, I use to have no problems with my blinkers and now when I turn them on (left or right) all I get is a solid light.

Solid light in the dash arrows, Solid light from the taillights, Solid light from the yellow lights upfront(under the headlights and on the front quarter panel).

My brother has a similar truck and he thinks it might be my bulbs, i'm thinking its a problem in the column. Have any of you seen this problem before? If so or if not, suggestions as how i should proceed to trouble shoot this problem and fix it.

I'm checked around my headers and exhaust pipe(both recently installed) thinking maybe some wires were possibly accidently cut or melted...and nothing.

Any help would be appreciated...ask if you need more info.

actually that kinda problem frequently is a badt bulb, but yes it could be a shorted wire somewhere get a meter and start w/ checkin for shorts

Or it could be the flasher relay, which is also pretty cheap/easy to try. I've had them fail that way before. Hope this helps!

Last time I had that problem, one of the bulbs had failed. The brake light filament had broken and fallen across the running light filament. Easy fix, but it sure drove the turn signal circuit crazy.

Do your four way flashers work? The hazard circuit uses a separate flasher unit from the directional indicator flasher. If they work, I would suspect that your directional flasher relay has gone.

The directional flasher relay is the lower one on the fuse panel.

The original flasher is designed for a specific amount of bulbs. Some tail lights have 2 bulbs. Make shure all bulbs are lit. If so put in a new flasher like the previos post said. Then make shure all bulbs are working. Replacement flashers are made to work any amount of bulbs.

Hazard is fine, I checked the fuses and none are blown, blew off the dust and I tried out the flashers and they work for now.

Now if i could just get the darn horn to work again there would be nothing wrong with my truck.

Ok it was working, it seems that the blinker will work til the engine heats up. A couple minutes after starting it up the blinker no longer works, i checked the bulbs and all are fine...so I'm guessing its in the switch?

And also, I've heard exhaust wrap is bad for your headers...but I've been told I'll have no problem with the wrap since I have hedmans.
Anyone have any truth on this?

Did you replace the flasher or just blow the dust off it?

Change the flasher. It will work for a few tries, then the bimetal strip gets tired and won't break the circuit. If you get the heavy duty model, it will flash from 1 to 6 bulbs, with no change in speed.
