I am wondering what the rear license plate bracket looks like for a 1965 C20 step-side with a sport bumper. I am looking for one (preferably an original) and need to know what it looks like. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I did explore before I asked the question. There seem to be so many that I was left wondering which is originally correct.

my comment was in reference to my site there... a lot of people visit and don't bother reading it or clicking on the links... then they miss things.

by the way, what is a "sport bumper" ?

Thanks Woogeroo, I will spend some time looking at your site (just got home from church). A sport bumper, in my understanding, is opposed to a step bumper. Like Lugnutz posted.

but is that just not a std factory bumper. didn't think that they had sport models until later years?

I think it is a standard factory bumper, though I might be wrong. I think "sport" just distinguishes it from a step bumper. Rob

ah... okay, well that is the bumper on the trucks with the step side bed.

I think the "step on it bumpers" were dealer installed?

Of course, I think bumpers were an option on our trucks... I guess cuz a lot of folks used all sorts of aftermarket bumpers for various occupations back then.

the bumpers were optional cuz without it the tail gate can be dropped straight down without banging on the bunper and sticking out at an angle, better for farmers .... and those bumpers youse guys show are the same as the ones for the 55-59's [factory/dealer option], which use an identical [or nearly] license bracket - "step bumpers" [the checker plate things] were aftermarket .... remember the beds are the same 55-66

Thanks for the photos guys. I appreciate it. I too have read that bumpers were an option. I am going to install the sport bumper on mine. I guess the triangular shaped bracket was the most popular one for the license plate with this type of bumper.

Bill, I didn't see your post because it was on page two. The license plate bracket you show is the one to use? Does it mount to the bumper or to the body?

never used one, but by the assembly manual [RPO 218 for 55-59] it attaches under/behind the 'step' area of the bumper so the light points up [lamp assembly #817919, should be in the Master Parts Manual]
