My steering wheel thread on the column shaft are mashed. I started to use a 1/2 - 20 rethreader but it started to eat more of the tip so I stopped. Is there a way to fix this or will I need to get a new shaft?

. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 233 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 233 | I had to rethread mine to that size. The PO had a 14" hot rod steering wheel and he damaged the orginal thread. Go slow, 1/4 turn forward and back. Thread it to get a full Nut.

I had to cut the tip off, filed the edges down and started the re-threading. Once it grabbed hold, it felt like a was screwing on a nut with a few snags.
