Trying to find a saddle fuel tank for my 1942 1.5 dump, But all that comes up online is the 73-87 exploding tanks or 125 plus gallon big rig style. Does any one make a 20-25 gallon tank? Thanks, Mike

Are you talking about a period correct saddle tank, like found on roadtractors from that time period?

Sorta-kinda Spanky, I'm thinking those kind are alittle too large. Hoping for something with a smaller capacity.

Look for some Isuzu cabover tanks. That is what I am going to use on my Detroit powered hot rod.

Hi,alltruck72! On about page 6,in the "Parts For Sale"thread,"gibsonflatpicker" has a saddle-tank for sale,includes straps and filler-nozzle. Judging from the size,it appears to be between 20-25 gal.Says it will need boiled-out. there are several pics in that post. Came off an A.D. 3500 behind-the-cab,(frame-mount), tank. Wouldn't work on his panel project. Hope this helps.

I Checked with a tank company in Southern Ca a couple weeks ago, they don't do custom tanks anymore and what they have won't fit to what we're looking for and pretty pricey, now here in the land of fruits and nuts if you should happen to have a tank built it will cost a small fortune all the correct epa fittings and signage and what not, makes building one cost prohibitive. What I did a few years ago was I had a steel shop roll the size that I wanted and cut out the ends, we called it a cylinder, then I had a local welding shop weld it together, I'm thinking of putting a split tank on the side of a roll back truck to have a 4'X 16" by 10 Ga cylinder rolled out and the ends cut was still in the 400$ range then still have to weld it up and put fittings. 16" X 30" is 25 gallons. The brackets for 16" tanks will cost 72$ each on top of that.

I "found" a cylindrical aluminum tank,that I sold to a friend,for just such a purpose. It was about 12-14" dia. X 3'long.He used the existing plywood mounting hdwe.,to fabricate brackets for the frame-rails.He used the existing filler-tube,without having to fabricate a different one. Tank had a "sight-glass" type of gauge,so he was contented to leave as-is. I would prefer to have a "Dash" gauge that I could keep an eye on,and I don't think it would be to difficult to make one,as long as tank has opening(/w/plate),big enough to accomodate sending-unit. Since these tanks are in virtually every medium to large-size camper,there should be a good supply available,at a cheap,(if not give-away),price! Here in our "neck-of the woods",we're parting 3-5,every Summer. You should be able to find one LOCALLY,which boils down to NO SHIPPING CHARGES!!Paid $20.00 for mine,sold it for same $,to a fellow "Bolter",and we were both HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!! Hope this helps!

I lucked out twice;my '54 GMC 2 Ton has a right side cylinder-type aux. tank,and I just found a '49 or so GMC cabover that has a LEFT side tank just like my right side one. They're 40 gallons each,which means,on my truck it'll be close to $400.00 to fill up from empty.(40 gal.X2,plus 18 gal.cab tank=98 gallons @$4.00/gal., give or take a little) I expect that to give me 800-1,000 mile range.For only a 2 Ton,this sure is a BIG truck!
