I changed mine out in my 1939 GMC 1/2 ton and it makes a world of difference. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | 1941-46 boxes are a fairly easy swap.
Your steering wheel is keyed to the shaft and 41-46 shafts are splined. You will need a matching splined wheel or cut and graft the 39 steering shaft to the 41-46 box.
1/2 ton through 1 1/2 tons use the same box but the 1 1/2 ton box has a longer steering shaft.
If you are grafting the shaft the 1 1/2 ton box is a good candidate if it is the easiest for you to find.
