The indicator light stays on when the turn signal switch is in the center position and illuminates the red jewel in the center position. Previous owner 'fixed' it by covering it with black tape . Is the light supposed to stay on? If not, does anyone have a fix or a wiring diagram.

I just disconnected that wire. I really don't see the need for it-If you're looking down to see the lights, you will see that the blinker is either in the right or left position anyway. I might be able to find my notes as to which leads, but I did find it by trial and error. Connect the corners one at a time and see which causes the problem. The leads to the front lamps sounds vaguely familiar.

I had wrapped the column with rubber before installing the switch - I didn't want the worm clamp chewing up the paint. However, the switch is supposed to ground to the column through the clamp. I ran a ground wire with a blade connector on the end up to the switch - slipped the blade connector under the clamp and tightened it up - problem solved.
Try grounding the switch to see if it helps.

I came across a bolter's page a while back, (white, chopped, hot-rodded, pickup) with a flasher unit item number that solved that problem. It was for 12 volt systems though.
I cant find it anymore.
