My front axle is disassembled. are parts still available for the front end? - Most of the parts are still available, to service & maintain the front axle, but they may a bit prove elusive.
Is the steering box same or different between a c10 and a k10? - The two wheel drive and 4x4 manual steering gear boxes are different and not interchangeable.
on a k10 is the frame the same between a six and an eight cylinder engine vehicle? - The frames are essentially the same, but the front engine cross member on the early ('60-'62) and the cantilevered frame-to-engine perches on the later ('63-'66) Chevy 4x4 trucks, are slightly different and not interchangeable.
The transfer case is divorced from the tranny (420) what transfer case was used in these trucks and are parts for them still available. The Rockwell/Timken T-221 divorced transfer case was used on the '60-'66 Chevy K10 & K20 trucks & Suburbans. There are a number of aftermarket 4x4 parts suppliers, still selling rebuild kits for these transfer cases.
What would I look for when inspecting a truck like this before buying it. I know the basics. Is it a true "K" tag truck, meaning does it have the factory-correct K in the VIN tag identification and does the last eight alpha-numeric characters of the VIN match, those found on the top, driver-side frame rail flange.
what was the rear end ratios that were standard for thes trucks. The early 1/2 ton, 4x4 trucks ('60-'62) were 3.90:1, as standard equipment, in the K10 and 3.73:1, as standard equipment, in the K10 trucks from '63-'66.
any experts on this site who I can pm/email/ phone call to discuss the details of these 60-61 k10's? - Joek3167, on this site, is your man, when it comes to '60-'62 Chevy K10/K20 trucks.
