You need to make sure the battery is charged up completely for one. And if the battery is over 3yrs old, I would replace it. They usually don't go much over that anyway. Sounds like you have one or more cells in the battery that have gone bad and you don't have enough amps to get the engine turned over the way it should. This is a start. Cecil...... | | |

Make sure the cables are clean at both ends, especially the ground. Try a fresh battery and new points/cap. | | |

However ... since the truck has been sitting for "a very loooong time", I would think the first question is: Did you just put a battery in it and try it?
If so, maybe the problem isn't electrical in nature at all, but mechanical - the engine might be a little tight from just sitting. | | |
