About ready to pull the trigger on a 1951, GMC, 650 v-6 diesel w/period sleeper. My questions: did the v-6 come stock, I thought the 650 only had 4-71 or 6-71. How do i id the engine as either Detroit V-6 or GM Toro-flow v-6. any advice on Toro-flow. Understand that it is a gas to diesel conversion. Serial number HDRCR 6533389. Thanks for any help Chariotracer

Welcome to the Stovebolt. I could probably guess an answer but the pros, I'm sure will be along to give you the correct answers. Get that truck! Don't forget to post some pictures!

If that engine is original, it should say General Motors Diesel on the valve cover and not Detroit Diesel. The name Detroit Diesel was adapted in 1965.

Hy chariotracer, welcome, the V6 General Motors Diesel (Detroit Diesel) would not be stock in that truck. The Toro-Flow diesels didn't appear until the sixties. Could you post some pictures of the truck/engine???

The 650 series only had room for the 4-71 stock. I remember seeing one with a toroflow somewhere on the net, with sleeper, seems like it was green???

W Reeve, Is it a single axle or tandem axle. Also where is it located. I have been looking for a 600 series with factory diesel and tandem axle to go along with my 900 series trucks. Thanks, Al.

its a single axle ! I decided to go another direction. The Toro Flow engine research i have been doing and information from other folks has been interesting. I believe i will stay away from this one. Have been looking for a coe. Found one close by within 2 miles of my house. (talk about right on your door step) that fits my wallet and my eye. I find that is the best way to keep my interest in projects. If you are interested in the 51 GMC Call: Lonne at 801-330-0731, He has many other big bolts as well as some older 1/2s
