Ok, I searched and did not find this anywhere. I am a first time poster here on the Stovebolt.com, and realize that it might be considered poor form by some to just jump in with a question, but I am really looking for some help.

I have a 1954 GMC 100 pickup, I am in the process of updating it and putting it back on the road. It has been in the family since 1964, and is finally getting close.

In any case, the dash in this year GMC is apparently a single year dash and only for the GMC. I called Vintage air to find out why it was missed in the "sure fit" category. They cover the Chevy from 1947-1955, and the GMC from 1947-1953, and then they pick both up again in the 1955. Turns out the dash is different enough that they are not sure that the GEN II A/C unit will fit.

So, my question is: Has anyone out there done this? Did it work out ok? what tips do you have?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to even look at my post.

I have a 55.1 with the GMC dash. I used a system from Old Air Products. They worked with me to piece together a system. The normal unit fit under the dash, but I had to build a shortened glove box insert, about 3" deep. I mounted the controls in the ash tray hole. I put a single vent under the middle of the dash and a ball vent in each corner. I reworked the ebrake rod to move the release knob over to the right a few inches. It works well but the vents are mounted low and so I don't get air in the face. This makes it seem to cool more slowly. I should (and may) swap the center vent and put the vent in the ash tray hole and the controls under the dash.

regards,
Leon
