I believe I installed the emergency brake hooks back correctly. But the shoes don't compress the wheel cylinders all the way, see Brakes1 picture. I just installed the spreader, I have not installed the hooks on each shoe to hold them to the back of the drum. What am I doing wrong? Brakes1 Brakes2 Brakes3 Brakes4

It could be too tight. That will keep your shoes apart. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1947truck/47ctsm0506.htmAlso, did you properly assemble the toggle lever, And also the adjustment of the toggle lever, listed on same page. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1947truck/47ctsm0510.htmOnce you get the shoes to come together make sure the adjusting wheel has the stop setting in it. Your #1 pic looks like the rear stop is not going to set in the slot in the adjusting wheel. Looks a little high from here.

However, I tried to but the drums on and it won't go on over the shoes. I should mention that it is a 40 Master Deluxe. Do you think it is the emergency brake that is to tight? What else could it be? Please help.

There is also an eccentric pivot bolt where the arm attaches to the shoe. Make sure it is adjusted for max contraction of the shoes. It is also very common to buy shoes with too thick of lining, but back off everything first.
