I just bought a 1955 First Series with a 235 and I believe a 390 rear end. It also has 30" tires on the rear. The previous owner put in a 700R4 transmission. It drives in town and freeway fine. I haven't hooked up a tach yet. If I am doing it correctly, I'm turning about 2000 RPM at 65 MPH. What would be the RPM range for engine longevity and mileage for long trips? Any help would be appreciated.

the 700R is a good trans for the truck to hit the highway - 2k will be easier on the old timer, but the 235 can run 3k all day, so you should be able to cruise at 70 easy enough .... and yes, the rear should be a 3.90

Thanks for the reply. I did a compresion test and I had #1 thur #5 at 130 and # 6 at 135 so I think Iam good to go. Thanks again
