and there is a decent groove worn into it by the old seal over the years. I have a new seal in the timing cover whats the chances that it won't leak?
I neeed to heat it up and drive it on right?

Bill | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | If you have a 53-55 truck harmonic balancer it should be OK on a newer 235 that has a 3/8" fan belt. Use the fan shroud with a diameter that matches the engine/generator.
A worn area on the crankshaft snout where the cover-seal rides can be easily remedied with a "speedi-sleeve" or other similar repair sleeve (Rockauto.com as one that presses on and needs no adhesive/sealant).

That way the seal rubs on a new spot on the balancer that isn't worn. I guess you could call me a tight butt !!!!!

I used some thick gasket material, cut it to fit under the seal that fits in the cover, to shim it out, also. Used some gasket sealer on the gasket material and it sealed it and shimmed it out. The gasket material is about 1/32" thick.

thanks Mike. I warm the hub on a hotplate so I can install with oven mitts instead of a hammer. I have a speedy sleeve on mine but it's mighty thin and think moving the seal a bit would have been a more permanent solution but have no leak so far. Also, welcome new guy from Hurst, Texas with 3 posts???
