While installing a new light switch in my 58 Suburban I noticed a small fuse on the back of the switch. I'm curious what that does. Do all the lights stop working if that fuse blows.

It got me thinking that accept for the inline fuse that came with my aftermarket TACH I don't remember seeing any fuses anywhere on the truck. I can't find a fuse panel anywhere. I don't see anything on the wiring diagram either.

Is a fuse panel/block hidden somewhere on the truck? How did they keep the trucks from burning to the ground??

Thanks

My 58 GMC had a connection block for the bed lights under the cab floor but no fuse block.

the small fuse on the light switch is for the dash and tail lights only [3amp], the springy thermal breakers on the sides of the switch are the headlight overloads, automatically resetting when they cool down, can cause the headlights to go off/on repeatedly if a problem develops, but keep you from totally losing lights .... the only other protection was a fuse panel like this that was only installed when some electrical accessory was ordered, particularly a radio or extra lights .... the fuse block is shown in dotted lines on the wiring diagram labeled ACC JCT BLOCK

Bill;

Is that inside a black box mounted on the firewall next to the horn relay and voltage regulator? I was wondering what that was. Never thought to see if the cover came off.

My Burb came with a radio and a heater so that may be it.

no, the fuse panel mounts inside the firewall above the clurch pedal, there's a 'cutout' marked there in the cardboard insulator - shown here from heater installation instructions .... no idea what the box is you have, maybe a picture would figure it

Ok. I'll have to stand on my head and see if I can see anything under there.

easy to see from standing beside the truck and leaning in the door, they considered you might want to change a fuse now n then grin

My '59 3600 has no fuse panel, only fuse is the one on headlight switch. Of course, it's a bare bones truck, no radio, vacuum wipers, so my lights are the only thing that needs protected.

I checked again on the fuse block. There isn't one anywhere under the dash. Turns out the black box on the firewall is the voltage regulator. Duh!!

My truck has a radio and a heater. I would have thought there would be a fuse box.

Anyway, I plan on buying a complete "new" wiring harness this spring. That will come with a complete fuse panel.

Thanks

Larry
