The truck has been modified prior to me owning it with a 12v system. I have been told that I can run the 6v starter off the 12v system without too much worry.
I need to get the proper ignition coil to go with this new starter and I am not sure if it matters if I get a 6v or 12v. Can anyone help me with this?

You definately want a 12v coil and a ballast resistor to protect the points. There's a good overview of the conversion here . I went with a single wire alternator and replaced the entire wiring harness; quicker starts, brighter headlights, electric wipers all make the truck more user-friendly. | | |

Get a 12v AC Delco 1 #12337166 coil not internally resisted. I did my conversion 8-9 months ago and boy, what a difference. Yes my original foot starter has never responded so fast before : - )
