If the outside door handle turns down, it is a 1951 door.
Can you provide any ID serial numbers? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | The first one is probably a 450 series. The second one doesn't look factory to me. The engine looks 1939 and later and the cab looks earlier. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 | The 2nd and 3rd picture looks like a 1929 Chevy International truck. The engine looks to be an an original first year 194ci 6 cylinder. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | I enlarged the picture, as much, as I could, on the first one, & it's definitely a '51-'53. Kinda looks as if it has push button door handles, which would make it a '52, or '53. If it's a '52, or '53 it would be equipped with a 302 engine. If '51, a 270. Also it has Factory tow hooks on the bumper. It could be a 450, or even a 470 series. Check the back of the glove box lid, for the tag that tells the trucks spec'd eng., trans, rear axle, etc. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 | The first one is probably a 51-53 GMC. I got lucky and both owners of these trucks were there. The Chevy is an early 30 according to him. He says it is a mix of 29-30 parts. He has the hood, radiator and the headlights for it but is missing the winshield frame, rear fenders and radiator shell/shroud. It does run but they had trouble getting it to run right. He put it out there to sell it, but now he is having second thoughts, Now he is thinking he might put a later chassis under it and sell the original one but he is undecided. I told him I would be interested in the whole thing and he took my number and said he would give me first shot at it if he decides to sell. The GMC is a 53 2.5 ton ex USAF truck. It runs but the brakes need work.Looks like they are air over hydraulic. He does have the title to it. I offered 2500 and he said he would do that and he would load it on a trailer and deliver it since the brakes aren't working. I asked him why the gin poles were cut off...he said they were attached until his buddy took it for a spin around the building and the winch popped into gear and tore them off. So we know the winch works. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | The Military under rated trucks, so unless that truck is a 400 series(which i don't think it is), it more than likely is a 450 series 3 ton, or 470 series 3 1/2 ton. The 400 series GMC trucks are rated by GM as 2 1/2 ton trucks. 400 series GMC trucks from 47-54 were standard with Dayton wheels, so your truck having motor disc has me leaning towards 450, or 470 series. If you get back by again check the back of the glove box lid, or factory ID plate in the driver door jamb, for the rated gvw. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 | I checked the glove box....no data plate there. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Check in the driver side door jamb for the GMC truck ID plate. If there it will have the trucks ID/VIN number, and the gvw weight rating. I'm pretty sure it's a 3 ton, or 3 1/2 ton, & not a 2 1/2 ton. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | | | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 268 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 268 | I'm with spanky on this one..it does look too be a 51-53 GMC 450 series...look at the wheels. They sure look like Motor Wheel 6 lug 7X20 Hub Pilot wheel w/compression washer lug nuts.
Which would most likely make it a 52-53 450 series and I am guessing its a 1952 453 model, that is a 3 ton with 161in wheel base. And a 302 CID engine..but I am just guessing with not much info...more pix would help 1000 percent.

I did a little research as far as registering it. Looks like I won't be able to register it as an antique/classic since the cutoff is 1.5 tons. I read some info about drivers license requirements.Hope it doesn't require a CDL to operate on the roads. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | You won't need a CDL, because it's under 26001 lb.'s gvw. Unless it's full air brakes. If it's air over hydraulic, you should be o.k. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 | | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | That's a 450 series 3 ton you have there. The "45" in 452 denotes a 450 series, the "2" in 452 denotes a 149in. wheelbase. The "30" denotes it has a 302ci. engine in it. 9379 is the production number. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 140 | | | |
