I have a 52 Chevy truck with a 216 motor - that often is hard to start when it's cold & has set for a while. The engine has been rebuilt, as well as the carb & it has a new fuel pump. What I suspect is the fuel doesn't get to the card before the battery gets low. Question: would a leaking intake manifold gasket impact how quickly gas can can be pushed/pulled to the carb? Also, I've found something called "Intake manifold aligning sleeves" which is a set of 3 rings that go between the manifold and the head; do these help prevent air leaks? Thanks.

All the rings do is locate the manifold when you are putting it together.
Do you have the choke connected on your truck?

Try spraying carb cleaner at intake joint at head, carb base. A change in idle speed will tell if you have a leak.

Yes, the choke is hooked up, but I will check to see that it is adjusted properly..

They do not help prevent leaks but they can cause a leak.

one example is if you have your manifold decked or machined, the rings may also need to be dressed down as they may then be to thick.

I purchased some step rings that were to thick delivered.

Thanks gentlemen for your help. Checked the choke and sure enough it wasn't closing all the way. Made the adjustment & the engine started right up. I used the starting liquid and no increase in rpm. Also, good to know about the sleeves. Bob
