For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 402 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 402 | Greetings,
I just installed the Performance Online gas tank in my 57 3100. It installed without a hitch and looks solid and of high quality.
The instruction set was kind of sparse, though, and all it said about venting was to make sure the vent was 18 inches above the inlet port.
For anyone who has done one of these, where/how did you run your vent tube? Assume I don't want any part of it below the level of the tank itself in the run, but where on the bed did you attach? I thought about running the tube back into the cab and attaching to the original vent tube there, but that kind of defeats the purpose of getting the gear out of the cab.
I have not installed the bed yet and want to incorporate this vent tube where it can be hidden but effective.
Thanks very much,

It would be out of site and 18" up...don't forget the roll over valve. I did consider the stake pocket, since the vent needs to be 18 inches above, but did not know how to do this. Was hoping someone here had done it.
I have never installed the bed yet, so maybe this will be obvious while I am doing that.
Thanks for the advice,

Do you have a link or some pics or other info I could go by?
I know modern vehicles have them, but don't know how to use that tech here.
Thanks for the suggestion. Please elaborate. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 | Unfortunately, the few charcoal canisters I've found are a little pricey. I'm sure you could pull one off of a late model car and install it though. Bacically all you need to do is run your vent line to the canister. Most of the canisters have extra ports that go to the intake manifold and purge valves, but you can block them off. The major benefit is that you can eliminate some of gas fume smell in your garage. The rollover valve is a good idea too. I wouldn't want gas blowing out the vent line. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=evap+canisterhttp://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS-Performance-Products/JEGS-Rollover-Vent-Valves/1032957/10002/-1http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Fuel-Tank-Roll-Over-Vent-Valve,5848.html | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 177 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 177 | i mounted mine to the cross member of the bed. just make sure it is higher than the filler neck. if not gas will flow out of the vent before it fills up the neck. I ordered the Speedway valve. Looks to be a perfect fit and fully answers the safety question. Your help is much appreciated.
