My wife coined up and purchased a Delta bench grinder as a Christmas gift. Anyhow, it seems to be built very good, regardless of where it is now manufactured. My only dissappointment is that one of the grinding wheels doesn't run true. It wobbles back and forth as though it's loose. I swapped the wheels side to side and even put an old grinding wheel on. It seems as though it's the "new" grinding wheel.

So, here is my question. How true should a grinding wheel run?

Should run true with no wabble. Even if the center hole was not
bored perfectly perpendicular to the sides the large support
washer should hold it true against the flange on the shaft. The
only thing that could run out that could be trued up is the
O.D. which you can and should dress true anyway.

There isn't any problem with the RH side wheel, so I swapped sides and it runs true on both sides. I'm thinking maybe the center hole may not be drilled straight or it's just a junk wheel. I'm planning on swapping it out for a wire wheel anyhow, so it's no big deal.

I also got a new bench grinder for Christmas (Porter Cable) with the variable speed feature and it's very nice. Only problem seems to be in finding good steel wire brush wheels. All I find are either brass or twisted wire which I don't want. So if anyone knows where to find decent (not cheapo Chinese crap) wire wheels I like to hear about it.

I guess I'm lucky, I'm within 10 minutes of a Grainger and a Fastenaal store. Sadly, most of the grinding stuff is Chinese made, but there's some US and Canadian suppliers in there too.
