Maybe it comes in thinner sizes? 3M strip caulking is a putty type substance that can be used and might work. I'm interested in what others might suggest.

Just wish I could find a product made for this. We use something similar for electrical panels. It kind of needs to rub against the side to maintain some friction to stay in a middle postition but the scrapping sound just seemed off. so that's when I thought of that stuff. Like Red say's...
