on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 43 | I need some expert advice on my frame mounted gas tank on my 48 AD truck. I bought the truck in August and with much assistance from many folks on this blog I was able to swap out the 216 with a 235 stop the differential from leaking and actually have driven her several times. Overall the truck seemed to run fairly well with some hesitation which I attributed to the Rochester-B carb. We replaced wires, plugs, condensor & points which improved the performance but still had a little hesitation during acceleration. I rebuilt the carb having had some experience with carb rebuilt kits for 4 barrel holleys and 2 barrel zenith carbs this rebuilt seemed easy. Well, after putting the carb back on the truck it cranked up fine and ran good with most of the hesitation gone; however it seems to want to run fine during a couple 6-8 mile drives but once stopped I have problems keeping it running. I have a fuel filter before the new fuel pump and one before the carb. One of my friends at work indicates that the gas tank is probably full of sediment and the line is getting clogged. Is this a common problem for these tanks? Do you have any other ideas on what may be causing the truck to run fine at first then stall and not want to start after a while? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I also need to again express my great appreciation for all of the previous advice you have provided on pulling the old engine & trans.

How about the bolts holding the carb to the manifold? Tight? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 43 | Thanks for the suggestion and I will double check the bolts holding the carb to manifold but believe they are tight. Is there a torgue specified for these bolts? I couldn't find one in the shop manual.
