Would like the coil to look like original cannister, rathere than the boxy look, but need one for electronic ignition.
Pertronix says I need coil with resistor buit in with resistance around 2-3 ohms. Any idea wher to start looking?

I have both the 6v and 12v Pertronix ignitions on a 235 and 261 (respectively) and decided to buy their coils, even if they are a little more expensive. I have had no problems.
I have not been successful in finding a source for the zener diode that Pertronics says will protect their units from voltage spikes.

This system uses the original distributor. I have one, but don't feel it is working correctly. The Pertronix Tech Rep has been very helpful, but has no drawings or diagrams to send me. He states there should be a ground strap that connects to the plate where the module screws down to the distributor.
I don't find one, and am trying to figure out where to put it.
Any help with description or photo is greatly appreciated.

Did not see the need for a Hi Po coil on something with 8 to 1 comp . I would be a little gun shy of using the HEI from stovebolt eng co in a 235 or 216. I had him send me 2 and both did not drive the oil pump. If i was not watching for it ,i would have had a blown motor .Very exp dizzy that was no good . I also sent back a carb that was new. It was so full of brass shavings and other material, i had a hard time thinking it was new. Long time for my refund on my card also . The pertronix has been a no brainer for my cars and truck .

Both of them far from correct length shaft or location of cam gear. I wasn't going to accecpt anything that wasn't as precise as the original. Hard to imagine that the length was so incorrect as not to drive the oil pump! How do the ones from Buffalo compare?

#90472 01/26/2004 7:20 PM | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | I'm running Pertronix units in a 235 and a 261, both using the stock coil(no internal resistor). I did the 235 first, about five years ago and didn't use the external ballast resistor. I converted the 261 just last summer and kept the ballast resistor as a precaution against drawing too many amps through the Pertronix unit(their suggestion). I don't put many miles on either truck but so far have not had any problems with either one. From what I've heard about the high performance coils, you only need them if you are going to turn high rpm's. For the 2500 max rpm that I turn my stovebolts the HiPo coil wouldn't make any difference.

I haven't personally tried it, but try searching for HEI in the forums.
