Anyway to add to my frankenstein machine it has a 49 carter carby that needs replacing and found a place i can get any year model carter w-1 carby, so is there any issue staying with a 49 carter on a possibly late 30's engine? Or should i try and stick to a mid 40's as per model truck?
Are they all interchangable etc?
Any help is great

1949 W1's used on cars have a fast idle arm on them. Before that there was a throttle cable for fast idle.
If you have a choice I would get a year correct carb.

If you choose to rebuild it, just get a kit and go for it, it may run better after a rebuild and not need replacing. As im in Australia it is a better $$ option for me to buy than rebuild.
Ive been researching and it appears the w1 is more 'refined' in later models but basically the same design with minor 'fixes' added which i guess brings me back to the question should i go for a 38 carby or a better 46 model carby that had minor rrliability issues addressed. Or is the 38 one ok as ive read somewhere they recommend going a later model as better carbs.

Some years ago I needed mine rebuilt and the parts had to be special ordered. That may have changed by now?????
