I live in PA and want to put regular plates on my GMC and Chevy (43 and 42).

I have a 42 GPW with Historic plates, but don't want the limits of a Historic registration on my truck.

Anyone have any success/horror stories about the process? I live around Harrisburg so I can get to the DMV if that makes it easier.

The main issue will be Pennsylvania's motor vehicle inspection law. Once you get regular state registration and the required insurance, your '42 and '43 will have to pass current inspection requirements. This could be costly.

The only things I will have to add are seat belts (no biggie), turn, brake, and reverse lights (no biggie).

Since the truck is basically a 1941 Chevy cab on a beefy frame all the parts should be easy to get.

i have commercial tags on my 51 6100 dump. depending on what weight class your trucks are you may want to reconsider. my class six tag for the plate is 288 buckaroos(which are now due)not to mention commercial insurance. another 500 clams (which is now due) its a lot of money for the use it gets. but im in the process of getting antique status because of the cost (i say this every year). as for inspections i love the look on my mechanics face when i schedule for a sticker. i help him and make so im the first one at the shop that day. with two trucks you could switch them out with the antique tags and never have a issue.

If it is a 1941 title you will not need seat belts for S/I you will need all the lights, wipers, clear glass.you can go to the d.o.t wed site and get the inspection manual on line.

The Chevy tops out at around 12,000 but I could get a lower rating if I *promise* not to haul stuff in the bed. The GMC can go up to 15,000 and has the dreaded 3rd axle, which does put me in the $300 tag range.... and so that *might* go historic.

My notary is pretty helpful when it comes to weight tags.
