on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | I just got a new axle for my bus. I found a great deal on a Dana 80 with disc brakes, 4.63 gears and came from a 2002 Chevy 3500HD truck with factory 19.5s on it. I had the guy measure the width of the outside to outside tires and it was about an inch wider than mine, although it could be just the difference in tire size. I'll have to get the measurements for WMS to WMS on it and compare to mine. I did measure the spring moubnts and oddly enough, or not, they are the same at 40.5". This is looking like a good swap so far. I'm probably going to wait until Spring to do the actual swap though and also do front spindle swaps for disc brakes like in Grigg's Tech Tip. Also change the transmission to a TH400. Lots of work to do. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 401 | Ok, not sure this is of interest, but the WMS to WMS of this "new" axle is 66 1/4". Looked over the axle and brakes a little and I must say I'm pretty pleased with it so far and those calipers are sweet! Very large sized. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,001 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,001 | If I were closer to you, I would help you make the changes. Since I'm not, I will follow this mod. Looks/sounds like a must do for me too. Thanks for posting.
