Hey all, on my 52 AD the pedal that I push to start my truck does not engage when I press down on it. I always have do raise the pedal in various positions in order to get it to start. is there an adjustment to where I can fix this .I see a u shaped clip on the rod that engages the starter is that by chance the adjustment?or is there someplace else that I'm not seeing here. one day when the rich uncle decides to leave me all that money I can afford a manual. thanks for reding to all who does

I think you probably need a new switch. Does it spin and make noise when you are moving it around, or only when you get it to the right spot? The linkage consists of two parts, the part that slides the gear on the starter in and out and the switch that contacts the lever to spin the starter.

4onthefloor starts good when you hit the right spot I really dont think it's the starter it's self but I've been wrong b4 I'll get someone to try and start it while I have a look see thanks

Im geussing josiah is corect.To test his theory simply remove the switch on top of the starter and turn the contact around and replace it.If that works your good to go untill that side wears down and then it will need to be replaced.

Another way to check is to use a prybar to move the lever on top of the starter and see if that works. If it does, you have linkage problems.

Thanks FredT will try what you suggested today wheather getting a little cool here need to adjust,repair whatever is gonna be done b4 too much longer or I'll be laying in snow or waiting till spring.

A sagging or rusted cab can change position , and not allow the pedal to fully engage.I had that problem with a 49 GMC.Or it may be what the guys above suggest.

Is the return spring still on the linkage ? I see where you said " have to lift up on it " there should be a fairly robust spring to return the pedal when released , it's a coil typ retraction spring .

When you remove the starter switch to rotate the contact , also be sure to polish both contacts untill shiny .

Tony is dead on from my experience. Cab mounts are probably shot and have misaligned the starter rod. Any problems with brake and clutch pedals binding on the shafts?
