Hi, I have a 49 chevy pickup truck, I have cleaned and lubricated my wiper pump,I have a double action fuel pump, My wiper motor will run with the arm linkage off, But with them on it will only move the wipers about an inch then it stops. How much vacuum should I have at the wiper motor?

I had the same problem. I tried lubricating the windshield with a little water and rainex, it did help some. Rather than try to find a rebuilder for my vac/motor I decided to convert to electric on the cheap. Have a look just for fun. I posted my solution in the electrical forum. For me this was a dependable solution.

Before you spend money on another wiper motor you might want to give this a try: remove both wiper transmission arms from under the dash, clean and lubricate the ends where the (outer) wiper arms are mounted. That might be your problem.

At normal driving speeds, my 250 has 17 or more inches of vacuum. It will almost throw the wiper blades off the arms, they move that fast. I had the two vacuum motors rebuilt years ago by the Wiper Man. I tried all the tricks and just could not get them to work very good.

If you want working vacuum wipers, sent your motor to the wiperman. Mine was behaving exactly like yours. Now they work like new.
