so my buddy ed has a 63 chevy with a really mild 350. i think it orig. had a short tail saginaw. he wants to put in a sm319.

we know he needs to shorten the shaft and mabey deal with flywheel/clutch. does he need a new yoke?

what else is he gonna have to do

A SM 319 will bolt right in, but as for the shift linkage, you will just have to try it and make it work. The yoke will probably fit and shorting the drive shaft is no big deal.

Use the(4 bolt)side cover from the original trans if the one on the OD is indexed differently. It's probably a good time to replace the clutch. Install the electrical components, kick down switch & bracket, pull cable & drive it. Best kept secret on how to make these old trucks more efficient.

And you really only need the cable and a toggle switch.
