Has anyone hear of a vented cap on the 1939 chevy p/u? We found one on our truck. It looks like an original manufacturer cap, but never seen such a thing.

Hy Oldschooldude, all of the older master cylinders had vented caps, I'm not really sure when they stopped, somewhere in the 60s I think, hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. The cap on my 46 is not vented, so I was wondering about the 39.

Knipex "plier wrench" like an adjustable wrench but it gets tighter and tighter as you pull on it and dosen't harm the part.

Put some anti-seize on it next time

ok thanks for all the advice, the weather has cleared up and i was able to manage to pull out the master, took it over to my buds shop and using the vice the plug came off.

QUESTION: would it be wise to buy the rebuilt (sells for 39.99) or buy a rebuilt master for 49.99 (ebay) the concerned my bud said was that the inside of my master might be damaged due to being old? or unusable?

When I took mine off and apart there was rust pits inside, cause by by moisture in system, you can try to hone pits out. From a safety point why chance it, I replaced mine. 57 chev 3800

thanks im getting a rebuilt done for $50

I rebuilt the one on my 58 2 years ago and have had no problems. The top cap can be removed with a 4 way lug wrench. I found that out 50 years ago with my 1950 3100 work truck on the side of the road with no tools.
