I need to rebuild or replace my steering gear box on my 52 chevy 1/2 ton pickup. Seems, I can't find replacements. As for the rebuild kits. Any experience with them? What all do you have to do with steering column to rebuild. Those little ball bearings to get in there just right seem troublesome? Your advice and experience welcome. Thanks, Brad

Rebuilding the box at first appears a bigger job than it actually is. There is a booklet online you can review before attempting it:

Chev's of the 40's has a rebuild kit and I'm sure other vendors do as well:

The ballscrew/nut developed for this application was way ahead of it's time and in fact most all modern CNC machines use this same basic design to transfer motion smoothly, rapidly, and accurately.

You can also get most of the rebuild parts from a local bearing dealer, check your Yellow pages for a close one.
