Has anyone upgraded their 41-55 headlights? Looking for some ideas on what to do. I'm considering the sealed beam conversions with the H4 bulbs. The ones on ebay say they will fit any H6024, and list a ton of vehicles, why woudln't those fit my application?

My reasons for upgrading were for looks. I've already gotta buy new ones cause the system is 12 volt now. Plus a sealed beam conversion isi def. the way to go. The bulbs are cheap and easy to replace, plus the wiring is already set up for it (based on the donor chassi).
All the $40 sets look to be non DOT approved so far. So I've started searching some of the webpages hoping to find some. I'd def. need them to be useful, not just for show.

I'm not sure I understand what you want to do. The original 6 volt 6006 *is* a sealed beam lamp, and the 12 volt equivalent 6024 and H6024 (Halogen) are also sealed beam lamps. The 6024 and H6024 are physically identical to the 6006. They fit perfectly in the original mounting and have the same configuration for the electrical contacts.

H4 bulbs and the housings they fit into are *not* sealed beam units. Many people (including myself) consider the bluish light they emit to be very annoying, and this is compounded by the fact that they are almost never aimed properly.

If you're after something that works well, I'd say go with the H6024 Halogen lamps, which are a bolt-in replacement for the originals.

That's pretty much what I was hoping to find out. I didn't know the 6006 and 6024 were the same and couldn't get that verified anywhere. I don't like the look of H6024 (halogens) at all. I am planning on going to the H4 Sealed Beam Conversions, but am making sure it is a DOT approved setup. Drives me nuts havin misaimed headlights too. and I also wanna be able to see at night. I've found a couple DOT sets for around $50 plus shipping. Guess I'll bite the bullet and pay the extra 20

What was the first year for sealed beams on Chevrolet trucks?

You don't like the light they put out, or don't like the appearance? Visually, they are identical to the original 6 volt sealed lamp. You have to be about 2 feet away to see any difference in the logo cast into the glass. Here's a photo of my truck with H6024 bulb.

The light is brighter than a standard 6024 on 12 volts or 6006 on 6 volts, but does not have a noticeably different color.

I can see how that can be taken 2 ways. i meant I don't like the yellowish light emitted. And for style I do like the H4 Euro Cuts

Hella or Cibie E-Codes.

I also have a set of H4's I got from a VW Mag ad.
For $7 (w/bulb) I had to try them.
The compare to the Hellas and have a glass lens.
I promptly added 100w hella bulbs, that cost more than the lamps, but give twice the light on bright.
The do not have the blue "Rice boy" tint.

The Hellas have a Flat lens which IMO will not flow with the 49-55 front end.
Works with the 1964 Brick though. :rolleyes:

I hadn't thought about the curve going with the body, probably a good idea for me w/ a 41. How's the beam pattern on the $7 set, got a link to get them?
