What direction do I manually rotate the fly wheel in order to turn the engine? Looking from the fly wheel to the front of the engine, do I turn left or right?
This will help me set the distributor and gap the lifter.
Also, I purchased two eye bolts that are galvanized to lift the engine by the head bolts. They bolt in but not smooth. I do not force them in but once they get snug, I'll back them out, blow out the hole then re-insert the bolt. Now I have a solid eye bolt to lift the engine. By putting the galvanized bolt in the head and engine block, will this in any way damage the block or head?

If the bolt turns into the block hard, run a 1/2"-13 DIE over the eye bolt threads. Sometimes just cleaning up the threads on a wire wheel buffer is all that's needed to smooth out the threads. Be sure the eye bolt is a forged item, not a simple rolled type, or be sure to weld the eye into a full circle. I've seen low-strength rolled eyes straighten out and drop an engine- - - -not a good idea! Jerry

I didn't tap the block hole but I did use a die on the eye bolt. It is much better and bolts in smoother then before. The eye bolt is forged and ready to go.
