I am currently trying to replace the vent windows on my 55.2 3600 and I got the replacement glass today. I do not have the strip that goes into the channel of the wing window that holds the glass in. Will have to order that tomorrow. I was re-reading an earlier post I made that asked pretty much the same question. The answers I got were very informative, but I don't feel comfortable yet trying to install this glass myself. I think the replacement glass I have is thinner than the stock piece.? Have to double check tomorrow.

the "strip" [glass setting tape] that goes between the glass and the metal frame holds the glass in, it's a sticky material that's a very tight fit, you may be able to get that from a local auto glass shop .... you'll need to get the old glass out, might take softening that tape with something like gasoline [carefully], then it should be obvious how to get the new glass in ... if you're not replacing all the seals you might be able to change the glass without removing the whole assembly from the door

if you're asking what holds the vent assembly in place, there's very small screws around the front and top [note the small tabs in the pic] under the rubber seal and the 2 screws in the middle of the door - the shop manual has instructions for re & re of the vents

In your pic #48, the actual green piece, the frame that the wing window glass goes in, is what I took out of the frame. I did not take out the outer frame from the door thas entails that long leg down in the door itself. So what I am needing is the glass butyl that holds the glass in the pivoting frame. The only things I had to take apart to get this inner frame out where the nut on the bottom of the wing window below the big spring, and then pull down on the upper part of inner window frame to release post from it's locating hole. (did I explain this correctly?)

Those parts actually go between the vent window frame and the vent window itself. If that makes sense? I suppose I will have to take a picture tomorrow and post it here to better explain myself. I am at a loss for the correct verbage to get my dilemma across. The pic of the parts you showed I bought, installed sucessfully and still don't have the glass installed into the vent window subframe. Brian

yes, what you need is called glass setting tape, should be available from a local glass shop in various thicknesses ..... I'm not liking your description of taking the glass frame out of the vent assembly, hopefully you didn't distort anything pulling it out of the top hole, but once it has the new glass in it you're likely to bend something to get it back in, that's not the way the factory would do it .... and you replaced the rigid riveted on seal with the assembly still in the door? I think others might like to hear how you did that .... also make sure you get the pointy eccentric washer back in the right place and orientation, it controls which direction the vent opens

the local glass shop closed about 25 minutes before I got there saturday. So, I will try again on Monday morning.
As far as distorting the glass frame while removing it from the vent assy, it was no problem, came out pretty easily? I have already re-installed it into the vent assy after I put the new rubber seals in and around the perimeter. I will put the glass in the frame while it is in the vent assy. The riveted on seal- I just rolled down the side window, drilled out the existing rivets, put in new seal, and riveted it in? Again, no problem. Will post some pics later today. Brian

Actually, I would replace the glass while it is out of the vent window assembly. With new glass and new butyl tape my experience is that it is a VERY tight fit and takes lots of careful finesse and pressure to seat it in the frame; more pressure than you'd like to place on the assembled frame while it's back on the truck.

I have found that gentle heating up of the tape really helps it
"squish" while the glass is being seated. I use a heat gun or the handy pizza oven in my shop!
